Hi there, I recently upgraded my system with two more (2 x 8 GB) Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3000 MHz sticks. This is the same setup I used for about two years before. I previously ran the older version at 3200 MHz with XMP settings. The new sticks let me reach up to 3266 MHz, but when I connect all four together, I’m capped around 2800 MHz. I’m curious what might be causing this issue. Someone could help me—I have a Ryzen 7 2700X (not overclocked) and an Asrock B450M Pro motherboard. My PSU seems to have enough power (650 watts). Thanks for your assistance!

It seems likely a mix of the average IMC on Zen+, your motherboard's memory layout, and mismatched kits contributed.

It's common knowledge that Ryzen 1000 and 2000 models have relatively poor memory controllers, making it hard to handle fast RAM speeds. On the 2000 series, achieving more than two RAM sticks above 3000 MHz is challenging, and with four sticks it becomes nearly impossible. Consider boosting the SOC voltage to 1.1 and check if performance improves to around 2933 MHz.

Thank you, I'll give it a shot. What concerns you about the normal voltage? It's configured at 1.35V, but I raised it to 1.4V and everything works fine.

System operates successfully on SOC 1.1 V and RAM 1.4 V at 2933 MHz. Appreciate the confirmation. I plan to attempt higher voltages next.

It would be better to consider running two sticks at 3333 MHz instead of four, as you experience a performance drop when using four. Sending back the extra sticks isn’t necessary unless they don’t fit your needs.

Do you require additional storage? Would it be worthwhile to trade in your old sticks for 16GB modules? Is that distinction significant? You're showing better performance than expected, but notice that more sticks mean reduced frequency.

It seems the extra RAM came with a compromise, as running it slower affects performance. Even if 16GB was sufficient initially, the trade-off likely involved reduced speed.
