my money is still on having updates turned off long enough that it forced an update. well, ya see, I loath watching videos like this, I prefer to read the info and not be influenced by the person doing the presentation. I apply that to pretty much everything. But will admit I was incorrect. Should have stated IT STARTED with one guy posting. Just shows how friggin' hard it is to write software to be used across god only knows how many million different hardware configurations. Double edged sword, that is. It plagued early Windows and boosted early Apple BUT ultimately gave Windows a larger overall customer and software base than Apple with them requiring everything to be proprietary. But still have to contend with it working on 14 billion different possible hardware configurations. That's why now they all, software and hardware producers, just use us customers as beta testers. Release half-baked crap and wait for consumer feedback to determine what needs fixing. Guess we'll find out after OP has finished updates and posts the results. on a side note, never cared for Asrock products personally.

I had to exit while the system updated, and when I got back, it felt like things weren't looking good.

I allowed chkdsk to run briefly with little improvement, then restarted the computer. Once I couldn't even launch Windows and encountered a BSOD during startup (NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM), I decided to try a fresh installation. After connecting my USB drive, setting up, and letting it install, I received a "Windows 11 installation failed" message. Eventually, I realized using the USB provided with my Windows 11 key instead of the one I made earlier worked. This means spending around $200 on a genuine Windows copy wasn't wasted. The main drawback is it's an older version of Windows 11, so I'll need to apply numerous updates. Now that I'm running Windows again, I checked the drive health with CrystalDiskInfo and saw 98% health with no errors. Usage isn't consistently at 100%, and I'm confident I've fixed the issue. Cheers. Edited October 4, 2025 by stardew
