No, you're fine. You said that the CPU was loaded up quite much when the VRMs were at 83°C, that's fine. I have a 6 phase VRM for an i7-9700 and they're not cooled at all, so in CPU intensive game like Need for Speed Heat, they go up to 90°C or more. I will definetely do something to cool these, but you're fine with yours

On such boards without VRM heatsinks, a downdraft CPU cooler works best to provide airflow around the VRM. Have you verified the VRM temperatures during full CPU load (like Cinebench R20/R23)? If they stay below 90°C, you shouldn't be concerned.

During Cinebench R23 it reaches up to 95ºC before throttling begins. In CPU-heavy titles it rarely hits 85ºC, and I spend only 5–6 hours per week playing them.

Don't stress. I run 10-hour sessions at 85°C plus on my 9900k. She keeps doing well. The CPU is solid, and the heat doesn’t wipe out performance. It just stops when it fails.
