Hello, I own a Dell Vostro 2420 since 2014. I’ve been using it for gaming, especially GTA San Andreas. The RAM was originally 2 GB, but I upgraded it to 2x2 GB 1600MHz DDR3 SO-DIMM memory. I also switched the operating system from Windows 7 32-bit to Windows 10 64-bit. However, I encountered an issue: my RAM speed is now 1068MHz instead of the expected 1600MHz. The CPU and motherboard support 1600MHz, but it still runs slower. It feels very sluggish. The website took about 10 seconds to load completely. There’s also a problem with the RAM slot—some metal objects are stuck, preventing it from moving properly. It looks like a hand-shaped object on both sides, but it doesn’t move at all. Despite this, the RAM seems to be working. I’m planning to sell the laptop for $200 after fixing this. I’ll upgrade it with an i5-10400F and a GTX 1660 Super. Please help me out!

To achieve the optimal performance, enter the BIOS settings. Power down the laptop, restart it, and press the F2 key to navigate to "RAM speed" or similar options. Adjust it to 1600 MHz. The gap in RAM speed between 1068 MT/s and 1600 MT/s is unlikely to cause noticeable delays on web pages. You're probably using Windows 10 with an HDD, a Core i3-2328M processor, and 4GB of memory.

Increase your RAM's performance by pushing it to its maximum capacity, as it typically operates below its intended rate by default.

The BIOS indicates the RAM speed should be 1333MHz, but I'm unable to modify it. Even when checking another laptop, it operates at 1068MHz. I attempted this on a different device and it performed at full capacity.

Dell is handling it by setting the speed to 1333/1068 MT/s. It seems there’s no option to adjust it, sorry for the inconvenience.

Fun Fact: The "Another Laptop" is a Dell Inspiron N4010. I received it for free from my sister's school—probably not the smartest people, but they clearly care about their students' success! Thanks for your help!
