Low quality visuals, limited draw range, and weak shadow effects appear consistently across every title.
I've faced a persistent problem over the past few months that has puzzled not just me but also Nvidia and Microsoft. All my games display poor graphics quality—textures lack depth, ambient occlusion is missing, edges appear jagged, colors look flat. This issue affects both of my computers.
First PC: Asus Maximus ix formula, ASUS 1080 Ti Strix OC, 32 GB Corsair Vengeance RGB, EVGA Supernova G3 750W, Intel i7 7700K, Windows 10 Home.
Second PC: Asus Maximus vii formula, ASUS Maximus VI formula, 16 GB Ripjaw, Corsair 1000W, Intel i7 4790K, Windows 10 Home.
What I've tried so far (seems to help) includes:
- Reinstalling Windows 10 multiple times.
- Updating and reinstalling Nvidia drivers repeatedly.
- Deleting all drivers via DDU several times.
- Running Windows 10 command prompts as admin.
- Installing older versions of Nvidia drivers.
- Swapping GPUs—five different ones tried, but the visual problems persisted.
- Using anti-virus scans (no threats found).
- Contacting Nvidia and Microsoft, who redirected the blame to each other.
- Testing monitors: ultra wide, 1920x1080, 4K—still no improvement.
- Enabling administrator account for troubleshooting.
- Using Windows Troubleshooter.
- Adding new SSDs after the problem started.
Despite these efforts, my main PC still shows the same graphics issues. When I swapped the SSD in my main machine onto the other PC (which hadn’t had one yet), the problem transferred. I even tried replacing both with new SSDs, but it didn’t fix anything.
My Windows account is set as administrator, and I’ve checked everything via the troubleshooter. The only change that helped was switching to ultra display mode, which made no difference. My main PC’s graphics remain poor, and I’m left wondering what could be wrong—my GPU might be faulty, or my motherboard defective.
I’ve heard suggestions like “your GPU could be bad” or “the motherboard is failing,” but nothing has clarified the situation. This is frustrating, especially since everything else seems fine.
Given the wide range of options available, I believe the OS update conflicts with the graphics driver. You've already tested older versions, so perhaps checking the latest beta releases would help.
From my perspective, the operating system seems to be the issue since it's the only component shared by both computers. I initially ran tests myself before reaching out to Microsoft, who confirmed they weren't seeing any errors or pointing to Nvidia as the cause. In the end, I believe the OS is responsible for this problem. It occurred with both machines simultaneously.
Open NVIDIA Control Panel and verify there are no conflicting NVIDIA configurations for the game.
They share two aspects: operating system and mobile version. Have you verified compatibility between Asus and Windows 10? https://www.asus.com/microsite/mb/Windows_10/ If your mobile versions are accepted, ensure the Asus Win10 drivers are installed (don't rely on automatic updates). The only adjustments I’m making are enabling v sync for proper G-Sync operation, setting maximum performance and refresh rate to their highest values. These were my usual choices and worked well before now. Appreciate the suggestion!
