I recently upgraded my GPU and encountered some performance problems. I moved from an RX 580 to a 6700 XT, which caused my frame rate to drop significantly in CPU-heavy or low-load games like Fortnite, CSGO, and Dead by Daylight. The card usually runs at its lowest clock speed of around 500MHz, and using wattman doesn’t provide a stable minimum. Other titles work smoothly, often reaching 2400–2500 consistently. Clock speeds tend to increase when I boost graphics settings but drop again after closing the pause menu. Lower settings usually result in lower clock speeds. I’ve checked my DDU and reinstalled Windows, but only temporarily fixed it while the PC was on. Drivers are up to date, yet the issue persists. Many people report similar problems, so I’m hoping someone with relevant knowledge can help. Just let me know if you’re unfamiliar with this issue—I’m certain my hardware isn’t the cause.
Is your system running Windows 11? There’s an issue with certain newer Radeon cards where performance drops occasionally. Hardware Unboxed discussed this in a Q&A and is planning a video about it.
Have you considered switching your PCIe slot to PCIe Gen 3 rather than auto or Gen 4?
