Hello, I'm experiencing low FPS despite having a high-end GPU. My usage stays under 50% on the GPU and only reaches 20% on the CPU. It's frustrating to hit 100 FPS on a 240Hz display. Have you checked the system logs or performance counters? I've shared my stats—RAM 32GB, SSD storage, RTX 4070, and the motherboard details. What might be causing this issue?

Thanks for sharing all the cores. 2nd, consider turning off or removing the Nvidia Overlay completely—it’s causing issues and is quite unstable. 3rd, it seems like a typical CPU bottleneck based on the first point. 3 or more cores running near 90% usage... looks like it. 4th, please rerun your tests without the Overlay enabled; that might already help. 5th, I noticed a noticeable boost to around 170 FPS with a frame rate over 3600 and above. However, that was some time back. COD Warzone has become much more demanding lately, so it might just be the current hardware limits. The main challenge is fixing CPU bottlenecks through settings—your best bet is to push higher performance settings and move workloads from CPU to GPU.

P.S.: This column you mentioned is the right place to check, not the one you highlighted—around 90% on multiple cores usually signals a CPU bottleneck.

CPU performance is limited by a powerful processor, possibly due to insufficient VRM power on the motherboard for the 5900X. Make sure you have the newest BIOS and chipset drivers installed directly from AMD.

If yes, perhaps executing dsr at 4k could also reduce the strain on the CPU.

Sure, that works. However, I think the person asking isn't aiming for a lower bottleneck while maintaining better image quality. It seems they want a higher framerate for more competitive performance.

Yes, I’m using 1080p with the newest chipset and BIOS. I’ve been playing DSR, but it seems to affect image quality. I’d like smoother playback at 240 fps or higher, especially for Overwatch 2 or Apex Legends, while keeping the system running at full speed. Would upgrading the motherboard help?

The fix would involve a CPU to eliminate the bottleneck. Options include AMD Ryzen 7800X3D or Intel i7 13700K, both needing a new motherboard. The AM5 requires DDR5 RAM, while the Intel version can use DDR4 if a compatible board exists. Upgrading to a Ryzen 7 5800X3D would significantly help, though it wouldn't fully resolve the issue due to NVIDIA's complexity. We still don’t know your motherboard model. Gigabyte B450 offers a range from poor to decent builds. Tl;dr – you’re running a 1440p system on a 1080p display.

Consider your current setup and future needs. If your budget allows and you want a reliable upgrade, purchasing a new motherboard is advisable. Otherwise, swapping the processor might be more practical within your financial limits.

Consider swapping the motherboard if you want to maintain that 5900X. The forum’s AM4 tier list indicates it will eventually fail under pressure. It’s unclear if the CPU can handle the board’s instability, especially during a meltdown. A board change won’t significantly boost average performance. Unfortunately, this board also struggles with the 5800X3D. Think about selling the 5900X while it still holds value, and pair it with a 5700X and a 1440p monitor for a better setup.

You already have two monitors and need a powerful processor such as 5900X. Since you want top FPS for gaming, consider getting a high-performance motherboard to protect your processor. I recommend checking options like the ASUS PRIME Z690 or MSI MEG for strong performance.
