Ubisoft is offering AC3 for free. I decided to revisit the game. My setup includes a GTX 960 with 2GB RAM running at around 1.2GHz and an AMD FX 8350 with 4GB RAM. At 1080p, I’m achieving roughly 45-50 FPS. However, I’m experiencing lower performance than expected. In Assassin's Creed 3, the issue became noticeable when I checked Nvidia’s Control Panel—v-sync was enabled. Disabling it improved things slightly. In Boston, I’m seeing only 30-35 FPS while navigating crowds. The numbers vary, but in other areas it averages around 50-55 FPS. My M8, which has a similar card, gets about twice as many frames and runs similarly. Watching the video, you can see the intended performance on that hardware. Could anyone explain what’s going on or suggest a fix? Playing with the same settings as the video would help.

How your CPU performs during frame drops can vary. An 8350 might not cause a bottleneck with a 960, but it's worth checking its performance under those conditions.

the frame rate stays steady, it’s merely unusually low when compared to my m8, and the video’s cpu consumption averages around 40%

The GPU is definitely struggling with performance.

Do you think that’s reasonable? You sent us the picture, here’s your GPU stats—obviously it’s struggling.

This forum discussion might get you banned. The GPU is handling 80% of the load, using full PCIe speed, and keeping a core clock above 1.1Ghz during gameplay. I’m seeing around 60 fps in some areas, but nothing better. I’m still checking the details.

This matter isn't something I'd want to explore further, honestly.

Check every part of your system if you doubt it can handle the workload. Is your hard drive slow? Does it lack memory? Are the CPU or graphics card overheating?

CPU stays below 50°C on EVO 212. Sufficient memory is available. SSDs are in use. Recommendation suggests using FX 8350 instead, as it handles single-thread tasks well and AC3 struggles with multi-threading. It appears the problem lies in optimization, not hardware limitations.
