Low frame rate in Valorant 3080 FE on an AMD 5900X with 32GB RAM
I'm experiencing a very low framerate on my 3080 FE with 5900x display. Other games run smoothly, but at 1440p it often drops to 150-200 fps and sometimes falls to around 100. My friend with a different motherboard sees 400-500 fps in a deathmatch, reaching up to 600 during shooting. I've reinstalled Windows, kept my BIOS updated and chipset drivers fresh. My motherboard is an Asus Crosshair Hero VIII Wifi 3080 Founders Edition, equipped with a R9 5900x GPU, 32GB RAM, and an Odyssey G7 27" monitor.
I accepted all the suggestions, completed a new Windows setup and several Valorant reinstalls. My RAM is operating in D.C.O.P mode on my ASUS board, which is essentially their XMP version. Temperatures are stable—I have a 360mm AIO cooler for the CPU and ample airflow in the case for the 3080 FE. I've experimented with various options, including reverting my BIOS to an earlier release.
My friend and I both with 5900x CPUs in new builds are having the exact same issue. The strangest part is we find turning settings to max or minimum barely even impacts fps at all it's just the same inconsistent, unstable and low FPS issue which makes Valo almost unplayable. There are lots of 5900x benchmarks online showing Valorant fps in the mid 400s to low 500s. Can pin 400fps easily in OW, can pin 240fps easily in Apex (I limit it to 190 for stability in Apex though) both while streaming. Only game that has the issue is Valorant. Is this a known recent issue that Riot haven't fixed yet? The FPS is so inconsistent that it drops below 100 in some fights and is at low 200s at other times but usually sits high 100s in game which is terrible with this spec level and feels awful with a high refresh rate monitor. When in game my CPU and GPU and RAM utilisation are all extremely low (below 50%) so no bottleneck that I can see. Everything is fully updated as far as I can tell. Tried everything I can find online. Even followed both of Panjno's tutorials and none of the steps made any noticeable difference in FPS. Strangely some of my other friends (not on 5900x CPUs) got huge FPS improvements with disabling fullscreen optimisations but no huge benefit for my friend and I for some reason. I think my friend has the same motherboard as you and mine is just the slightly updated dark hero version so I wonder if perhaps it's an ASUS motherboard or software issue limiting the 5900x specifically in Valo only because those are the two things we all have in common? Any help is mucho appreciato ===My specs=== AMD Ryzen 9 5900x (stock) ASUS Strix RTX 3090 White (stock) G.Skill TridentZ Neo 64GB 3600MHz CL16 (docp oc) ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero X570
I faced the same problem with my 5900x, x570 crosshair viii formula and 3080. The FPS issue appeared resolved by turning off hpet, please let me know if this helps
Hey everyone, just checking in after watching that video and going through a fresh Windows 10 update/install. I’ve been spending a lot of time updating and testing to understand what was happening, and now I’m at 400 FPS compared to my previous 130-190 max. It’s pretty wild with my specs—5950x32GB RAM, 3600Hz, and a 3090. Thanks a lot for the thread; hope someone else has a similar issue!
You're experiencing performance drops in Valorant and other games despite stable settings. It sounds like your system is underpowered for the workload, especially with the GPU and RAM not reaching their full potential. Consider upgrading your processor or RAM if possible, or checking for background processes that might be consuming resources.
