Hi,
I've experienced a significant drop in FPS, around 7 to 12, over the past few days. It seems to happen suddenly, from one day to another, even though games were running perfectly before. I don’t remember any software updates at that time.

System details:
- Dell G3 15 3500
- Intel® Core™ i7-10750H CPU @ 2.60GHz (12 CPUs), ~2.6GHz
- 16 MB RAM
- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti
- SSD Pm991a NVMe Samsung 512GB
- BIOS 1.12.0
- DirectX 12

I suspect overheating isn’t the cause since my laptop doesn’t overheat quickly. I tried updating the graphics driver from both NVIDIA and Dell sites, but it didn’t work. All other drivers are current. Windows 11 is up to date, and I can’t roll back to an older version. The BIOS is also current.

Setting games to lower graphics settings didn’t help. Reinstalling or uninstalling the games didn’t resolve the problem. The online Dell support didn’t detect any issues.

I ran a virus scan using Avast + Adwcleaner but found nothing. A DirectX diagnostic tool reported no problems. I had an issue with Alienware Command Center around the same time, which wouldn’t update; I uninstalled and reinstalled it.

My laptop shows no physical damage (no shocks, no water spills, etc.). I’ve done a user benchmark test and believe there’s a problem with my graphics card, though it can’t be fully analyzed since the driver is up to date.

I’m left with no clear solution except a system reset. Anyone have suggestions?

Hey there,
Userbench stopped working because an overlay was active. Just close MSI Afterburner or any FPS monitoring app and try running userbench again. it should finish now.
Remember, Userbench compares systems and isn't a true measure of GPU performance. For deeper checks, you can use Superposition to spot problems. Running the GPU at full load is better than a small test like UBM.
Edit: Are you using Geforce Experience by accident?

Hi keith12,
The Superimposition run on the stress test at 1080p completed without issues:
FPS: min 64, avg 82, max 109
GPU temperature ranged from 64 to 74°C
GPU usage peaked at 100%
Compared to what I've been experiencing recently, this feels much more normal.
I use GeForce Experience.
It might have come with the default or after an update to my GPU.
I don't really recall (my PC is around one year old).

I share a comparable build and face the same issue.
Specifications include:
Ideapad Gaming 3-15IMH05 Laptop - Type 81Y4
Intel® Core™ i7-10750H CPU @ 2.60GHz, 2592 Mhz, 6 Core(s), 12 Logical Processor(s)
16 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX
1650 Ti
UMIS RPJTJ256MEE1OWX SSD 256.0 GB
ST1000LM035-1RK172 HDD1000.2 GB
BIOS 3.2
DirectX 12
My preferred game is COD MW, which I played without problems before.
I also use GeForce Experience, does this affect performance negatively?
I think the Windows 11 update might be the cause.

In my situation, I would eliminate the change from Windows 10 to Windows 11. I made that switch a few weeks prior to when the issue started.
Perhaps it's actually an update to Windows 11 that's leading to the problem.

If you use GeForce Experience and fine-tune games, it can definitely reduce FPS and cause stuttering. When optimized, it alters the settings and may apply DXR, which lowers FPS. Usually I remove it and adjust game configurations directly in the game or via NVCP global options. You don't have to delete GFE completely, just ensure it isn't optimizing your games. Even then, setting default video options in the game and resetting them later can help achieve smoother performance.

I attempted without using GFE optimization, but the results remained unchanged. I checked to be certain but it didn’t help. Also, I tried disabling Windows 11 game mode, though I heard it could cause issues in some cases.

What operating system configuration are you utilizing?
Consider switching to ultimate or high by executing this command:
Type into powershell: Ultimate Performance:
powercfg -duplicatescheme e9a42b02-d5df-448d-aa00-03f14749eb61
Type into powershell: High Performance:
powercfg -duplicatescheme 8c5e7fda-e8bf-4a96-9a85-a6e23a8c635c
Does this affect your settings?
Even with the high power plan enabled, you can refresh it using powershell to reset it.

Additionally, could you share the temperatures of your CPU during gameplay?

The codelines in PowerShell didn't produce any changes. I didn't restart my computer after running them, just in case. Concerning the CPU temperature, I performed the same test as for the GPU using CPUID HWMinor and recorded the maximum temperatures during the benchmark: Core 0 - 94°C, Core 1 - 88°C, Core 2 - 98°C, Core 3 - 86°C, Core 4 - 95°C, Core 4 - 95°C. The package value is unclear to me. The test proceeded without issues.
