Hi, after upgrading your graphics card from 2060 to 4070, you're experiencing low FPS in Minecraft despite normal GPU usage. Your performance seems worse than before the upgrade. It appears there might not be a system bottleneck, so the issue could be specific to Minecraft or its settings. Your other games run smoothly, and your FPS improves when loading new chunks. You're using Minecraft Java Edition 1.20.4 on a PC with an RTX 4070 Core i5, 16GB DDR4 RAM, 3200MHz CPU, 750W PSU, and a 2TB NVME SSD. Let me know if you need help troubleshooting further! Thanks!

No, I didn't update the GPU driver after installing the new GPU.

it’s tough to begin without coming across as overly dominant… there are several issues here. minecraft java edition doesn’t really rely on your GPU beyond basic functionality. low GPU usage doesn’t explain your slow FPS; instead, it’s the other way around. welcome to minecraft java edition. given how inefficient Java can be and the complex engine design, there are some unusual bottlenecks. have you noticed any changes in your setup or game version between 2060 and 4070? that might mean you’re misunderstanding what’s happening. let’s focus on cause and effect: your GPU isn’t the problem, so it shouldn’t be the reason for your frame rate. you’re likely seeing higher GPU usage because the game is clearing up its own bottlenecks as you move around. remember those frustrating troubleshooting moments with minecraft 1.20? i’m also open to other possibilities. ---- for practical advice: stop worrying about GPU stats. they probably don’t matter much. (unless you’re using a shaders mod) watch your CPU usage and the number of cores the game is utilizing. keep an eye on memory with the in-game F3 menu. if you run tests, do them multiple times—if results vary a lot, it’s likely minecraft itself causing issues.

The unusual issue is that my game performance dropped noticeably with the new GPU. My Minecraft ran smoothly on my 2060 with the same other parts, so it’s unlikely the other components are the cause. When I enable shaders, the problem persists and FPS stays low even with similar GPU usage. My CPU stays around 8% during loaded chunks but jumps to 30% when loading new chunks, after which FPS doubles. I shared some performance images showing these changes under different conditions.
