I possess a laptop (ASUS GA502) equipped with a Ryzen 7 3750H and an 1660Ti Max Q Edition. In COD Warzone even at minimal settings I'm only achieving 45-65 FPS on average. Performance drops more when close to many buildings. The CPU stays at full load while gaming, clockspeed reaches 3.3-3.5 GHz, yet turbo claims 4 GHz. I suspect the CPU is the issue. My friend with a 1650Max Q and an i5 runs the game smoothly at 60-70 FPS, so why do I experience such slowdowns? GPU temps are around 75°C during play. Any suggestions on the problem?

CPU temperature might be throttling. The listed 4GHz is for single-core performance. If you're utilizing all cores, it will likely run lower—around 3.5GHz. Also, verify that your NVIDIA drivers are current and confirm you're using the dedicated NVIDIA GPU, not the built-in AMD one.

Verify drivers and firmware are current. Reinstall Nvidia driver via DDU using the game ready drivers. It appears you're playing on the Vega iGPU, as the 3750H offers better performance than the i5 9300H.

I was planning to share this topic too! It's new to me about gaming laptops and thermal throttling, so any advice would be really helpful. I'll start by following the right steps.

Apologies for the delayed response. I've reviewed the nvidia control panel and confirmed the GPU is set to High performance Nvidia processor. However, I've observed an unusual issue: after attempting to disable the Vega graphics card in Device Manager, I can't reach the Nvidia control panel, which displays an error stating "you are not currently using a display attached to Nvidia GPU." In Warzone, I've enabled CPU time showing 13-20ms and GPU time consistently at 9-10ms.

Sorry for the delayed response. It seems checking the CPU temperature isn't possible with Ryzen Master and it's not listed in MSI Afterburner. I'm using the newest NVIDIA drivers and in the NVIDIA Control Panel Warzone is set to High Performance NVIDIA processor. I've looked into the CPU temperatures, they range from 85 to 96 while gaming, and the system temps stay at 105, suggesting no throttling (verified with Core Temp). Edited March 24, 2020 by IXMachina

The Vega iGPU acts as a simple conduit. Turning it off also turns off the dGPUs capacity to send signals. Generally, in most LAPYops the iGPU manages the screen while the dGPU handles calculations. That’s why the Nvidia interface is limited. The dGPU doesn’t really influence display scaling or other settings.

96 is very intense for any CPU. The throttle limit here is 90°C, so it should return to the base clock. Wipe down the laptop and proceed. Make sure you’re not covering the air intake or exhaust vents.

The exhausts are located on the right side and back. The air intake is positioned below the laptop, with rubber bumpers that gently elevate it for better airflow. I’m not sure if any of these components are obstructed. Are there any steps you can take to help lower the temperatures?
