I recently acquired an RTX 3070 from Ebay through a trusted seller. A Firestrike benchmark captured a 99.9% pass rate. The problem I’m facing is that after swapping out my GTX1070 for the 3070, my FPS drops further than with the 1070. In Hogwarts Legacy I’m around 20 FPS, and in FF7 Remake it’s similar—60 FPS on the 1070 at the same settings. I attempted DDU and then reinstalled the Nvidia drivers without success. My system specs include: Gigabyte B550M DS3H Ryzen 5 5600G, Corsair Vengeance 16GB @ 3200mhz, CL16, a Gigabyte B700H 700W PSU, and an Intel 670p 2TB M.2 NVMe drive. After powering off the PC overnight and restarting it in the morning, there’s no output to my monitors. The one connected via DP appears on the motherboard splash screen, but when I load into Windows it shows “no signal,” then switches back and loops until the PC restarts. I’ve tried re-seating the GPU and reconnecting PCIe cables. So far, I haven’t done much troubleshooting, but I’m wondering if my power supply might be underpowering the GPU or if my 1080p monitor is having output issues. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I would ensure PCIe 3.0 is enabled in the firmware. The 5600G doesn’t support PCIe 4.0 and works better as an APU than a CPU with a dedicated GPU. It has less L3 cache compared to the standard 5600, which means you’re giving up the Vega iGPU found in Ryzen 7000 series models lacking RDNA2 iGPUs. Your power supply and overall system specs should still be adequate, though 16GB RAM might be a constraint depending on your workloads. The reboot problems could stem from the iGPU versus dGPU conflict after using DDU; this warrants checking if you can disable it or adjust priority settings in advanced CPU options. In short, I’d suggest upgrading to a 5800X3D and moving to AM5 unless you’re comfortable spending on a higher-end solution. A 5600G acts as a bottleneck for your GPU, likely explaining why you didn’t notice frame rate improvements with the 3070 versus the 1070.
I’d handle it naturally. Review the specifications in gpu-z and match them with the info on Techpowerup to confirm it’s using default settings. If not, adjust them via MSI Afterburner. Also, check the vbios submission—if it’s not there, it’s fine, though there’s a slight risk it could be damaged.
This observation is completely reasonable, as even well-known sellers can have outdated mining cards available.
Thanks for the feedback. I wasn't aware the 5600 didn't support 4.0 and should have checked more closely. I assumed it was just a lower-end model with less cache and slower clocks. Regarding iGPU, does enabling it pass through the GPU since my DP is connected to the card? The games seem to list the RTX 3070 as the active card. I’ll see if I can turn off iGPU when I get home. If it works, that could explain the lower performance compared to a GTX 1070. It’s also strange how my stats dropped despite having the same GPU.

Synthetics don't follow the same guidelines as traditional games. Many overclocks would work well with 3DMark HoF but often become unstable in actual play. A tailored boosting setup using a custom GPU BIOS could help. I haven't adjusted my GPU BIOS since Maxwell, and Nvidia has restricted those kinds of changes. Still, the GPUZ tip about verifying the BIOS is a solid move. I'd just share a screenshot so everyone can review the advice.
I’ll do it. A tweaked vBIOS could indeed reduce the 3070’s performance compared to a 1070 under identical settings. Given its higher specs, it’s possible the iGPU is taking over or bypassing it. From what I’ve heard, this might happen if the iGPU is managing resources more efficiently. The Task Manager shows full usage for the 3070, yet power readings seem off—could be some unusual behavior from the iGPU. I’ll follow up after work with any findings or fixes.
