Windows usually costs between $90 and $110 for a copy from sites like Newegg or Outlet PC. For budget builds, the operating system can account for 15-30% of the overall expense. I’m familiar with Linux too, but I’m particularly interested in insights from custom builders who create solutions for clients.
In a custom build shop, it's clear that the standard approach is to let customers supply their own licenses if they possess one. There isn't a more affordable legitimate method for acquiring Windows. OEM offers the best value without the dreamspark program, which is limited to students and temporary access (frustrating for G2A users).
It seems this will likely cost a lot again... even with a bulk deal would help. Also, someone mentioned a price of $109 on their end, but I’ve noticed many illegal or temporary versions being shared.
Ultimate was available for Vista and 7. Windows 8 only offers non-Pro or Pro editions. The Pro edition includes additional features that benefit advanced users who enjoy customizing the operating system.
