Low-cost PC with operating system
You might consider purchasing an affordable PC with Windows installed, then physically removing the old unit and installing it into your new build.
It could depend on the situation. For OEM machines (such as HP, Dell, etc.), you might face difficulties—some arguing with the support team and others having to rely on generic guidance. With custom-built or retail Windows setups, it may function immediately, but you might need to contact support and adhere to their automated steps.
Opt for a budget machine with the OS installed instead of keeping it separate. Remove the one you don’t need and attach the one you actually use. This way, if the OS isn’t already running, you can add the Windows credentials to the device you prefer. Otherwise, I’m not very confident about that approach.
I wondered if it was possible since I discovered a computer priced at one-third of the cost. The operating system is still needed to purchase a new machine, and I'm already past my budget for the build. Having the OS already installed would really help.
I searched for Windows 7 Ultimate, but if I could locate 7 Home Premium, I’d definitely think about it. Alternatively, a more affordable Windows 8 version would be worth considering.
Yes, it's done improperly. https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/1qxfjn/
