I'm assembling a compact sub 1k€ gaming box for a friend. It includes a B450, a cheap SSD, and 5500XT. I'm considering either an 1600AF or a 3300x once it arrives. I'm leaning toward the 1600AF for better performance later, though basic gaming is the main focus. Maybe some light 3D work could fit in. I'm thinking a budget around 3600x, but unfortunately that's not possible. Please share your thoughts!

If I were focused on gaming, I'd choose the 3100/3300x. The data indicates that fast 4/8 chips (7700k) still outperform the second-gen Ryzen in gaming.

It seems there might be some confusion. The 7700k is a specific model, and Zen2 isn't clearly defined here. I'm concerned about potential issues down the line.

It's not 3500 or 3600. That would be my choice.

Pricey. Budget is tight here and the 3500 model is OEM only.

(if) in the future it's not enough, if the motherboard is decent i don't see why i wouldn't be hard to find a cheap second hand 3700x or something. otherwise if not, the 100 is a cheap gamble imo for the short term on the 3100

Maybe it's a pre-owned item.

I've looked, unfortunately, they're not there. Those OEM boxes seem too fresh for them to have been taken apart yet.

These should be fairly affordable too.

The 1700 isn't really useful for gaming right now. 2600(x) sounds similar to the 1600AF version.
