Looking for advice on finding parts for a non-Win 11 compatible desktop. Considering using Ebay Opinions to source a CPU like the I3-10100F for around $35. Need suggestions on a video card—probably not much needed. Interested in used purchases, whether Ebay is reliable or better alternatives exist, and staying under $500 total.

The main focus is understanding your intentions with the device. While many use it for browsing, payments, and streaming, others quickly discover a passion for gaming. If your needs are limited to online shopping, billing, or watching videos, you can find refurbished workstations at affordable prices on platforms like Amazon and eBay. With rising hardware costs, building your own setup might be worth considering. Newer Intel chips now support PCIe M.2 boot, and some motherboards even include OEM slots. This trend is more common in recent Intel models. AMD AM4 boards also support this feature, though it's unclear for older generations. A SATA SSD offers a solid upgrade, while PCIe M.2 provides an even better performance boost. For everyday tasks or light gaming, an office/productivity setup with integrated graphics suffices—though a 2-core/4-thread configuration is acceptable for some users. A 4-core/8-thread minimum is recommended. Integrated graphics are sufficient for basic or casual gaming, so you may skip a dedicated GPU if not planning to play games. If gaming is your interest, aim for processors with 6, 8, or 10 cores and at least 12 threads. AMD RX GPUs tend to be more affordable, while certain Nvidia options offer better value. For light gaming, an RX 5500 or GTX1650 should suffice; avoid high-end cards like GT7xxx or GT10xx unless necessary. Integrated graphics are just as effective and sometimes faster. When shopping on eBay, consider seller reputation and detailed feedback—sometimes listings are genuine, other times not. You can often find bundles like motherboards, CPUs, coolers, and RAM together at reasonable prices. Used items carry risks, but careful research helps avoid issues. Be mindful of seller conditions; avoid listings marked as "For Parts / Not Working." Ryzen systems can be tricky with RAM, so pricing has risen. Ultimately, your choice should align with your specific goals.

Avoid playing games if you skip F CPUs or Ryzen non-G. A solid dedicated GPU usually costs more than an integrated GPU with a CPU, unless it's in use and priced below $15. Ebay can be a helpful place to look for used items.
