This will be a solid discussion. Just keep an eye on Win7 versus Win8 and that player, 8.1. I’d go with Win7, as it’s more appealing to a hardcore gamer. Avoid Win8.1—it doesn’t fit the vibe.

Windows 8 works well in certain games and offers a better experience overall. Even though some users dislike it, I believe it's excellent!

Windows 8 and 8.1 are really difficult to work with. Go for Windows 7—it's cheaper, has a better interface, and performance isn't much different.

In certain games, you'll see performance INCREASES in 8.1 over 7. Also, once you get passed the metro interface and wait for the start menu update(coming out late summer/early fall), then it's just windows, plain and simple

Avoid relying on outdated operating systems for new projects. You can achieve the same feel as previous versions while benefiting from speed improvements. Using an SSD also means less storage consumption in win8. Don't worry about the start screen; you'll likely forget about it quickly or work around it with tools!

I managed to get it, I was really eager to test it... tried to enjoy it, hoped for a positive experience... but unfortunately it became overwhelming. Returned to Windows 7. It worked better on a media PC, where you’d expect more compatibility. Switching the metro UI to a larger size would have made it work much more effectively.
