I'm attempting to set up Windows 10 on a 980 SSD using a Thumb drive with a fresh installer. The process works smoothly until the system restarts repeatedly. Once it boots into the Samsung 980, it just loops through the BIOS settings. I understand the drive is capable of storing data. This person has encountered similar issues: the suggested fixes—keeping trying, using the SSD as boot device, redoing the disk patching—haven’t resolved the problem.

I’m a CS major with a background in tech. My computer was built in 2018, and I’ve watched every tutorial since then. I’m frustrated because I’m running out of ideas and would be upset if I couldn’t find a solution. My frustration with Windows stems from spending seven hours trying to figure this out. I’m frustrated by Microsoft’s support site and feel the software is overly restrictive. I also dislike having to create an e-waste thumb drive that only supports one Windows version and can’t be edited, especially when I have two drives. Lastly, I wish the installer could remember my 25-character pin after multiple attempts. I hope their copyright policies change for better user control.

It’s easier than you think—most installers warn to take your USB stick out before turning off the system. The correct boot sequence will adjust automatically. Try booting from the thumb drive first, then using F8 to start. If the problem continues, it might be a compatibility issue between legacy and UEFI settings in the BIOS.

I've already attempted to remove the thumbstick. I'll switch that configuration, thanks!

No one was able to function; I know the system can start from a specific drive due to compatibility issues. My old SSD shows two profiles—regular and Windows—in the boot options, which makes me uncertain.
