I'm trying to improve my PC, but it seems the current setup isn't sufficient for running the latest games smoothly at 144 fps with a resolution of 2560x1440. The budget is roughly $400 to $500. Here are the specs: CPU i7-7700, motherboard Asrock b250m-hdv, RAM Corsair vengeance 2x16 at 3200hz, GPU GTX 1080, power supply around 550-600 watts.

Within your budget, the only worthwhile improvement is the graphics card. You can't overhaul the entire system and upgrade the GPU at the same time. Your existing card will retain some worth, though it's unclear how much you'd be able to sell it for; adding it to the $400-500 you're willing to spend could result in a decent card that might still fit into a future build.

I suggest considering this option. Regarding CPU bottlenecks, it's also worth mentioning.

Appart from battlebit, the games you listed are mostly GPU-dependant.
Which means that a GPU upgrade would make sense within your budget.
But can you list the exact make/model of your PSU, as it is very important to make sure its a good and stable one.
At 1440p, the GPU will be doing most of the work, your i7 can handle these games at that resolution without a problem.

I recommend considering a PSU upgrade along with a new GPU.
PCPartPicker Part List
Video Card: XFX Speedster SWFT 319 Radeon RX 6800 16 GB Video Card ($429.99 @ Amazon)
Power Supply: Thermaltake Toughpower GF3 TT Premium 750 W (80+ Gold Certified, Fully Modular ATX) ($89.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $519.98
Shipping, taxes, and available discounts are included.

A CPU and platform upgrade will also be necessary. You can keep using your existing DDR4 RAM and plan for either a 13600k or 5800X3D later, or save up to upgrade to AM5.
