Current configuration uses an FX 4300 processor, R7 240 architecture, and 8 GB of RAM. I already have a Ryzen 5 build list on PCPartPicker, so I don’t need assistance finding parts. What I require is guidance on the operating system. I currently run Windows 10 on this prebuilt machine, which I obtained from Cybertronpc about two years ago. I’m aware Windows has an activation troubleshooter; if you replace the motherboard or hard drive, you can log in with your linked Windows account to reactivate it. However, some users claim it doesn’t work with OEM licenses, which I’m certain I have. I’m just checking if there’s a way to clear this issue for a future build and potentially save around $100 on Windows. Thanks to everyone!
OEM keys often cause trouble, based on my own use after watching a Pauls hardware video. I used one on a couple of rigs and it worked well both times, but many others have reported problems where it doesn’t activate at all. Microsoft can be tricky too—they send you to whoever sold the PC, which is now you since you built it yourself. You might want to try a code to boot into Windows 10 without a key; there’s a skip key button that, when pressed once, bypasses the activation for a few days.
