For optimal performance, aim for a processor like Q9450 at around 2.67GHz or higher. Avoid older models such as Q6600 due to their limitations in processing power and lack of modern features. The Q9505, Q9500, Q9400, and Q9300 offer smaller caches (6MB) compared to the Q9450, Q9550, and Q9650 which provide 12MB. While the lower-end chips have less cache, they still work well with hardware decoding enabled. The Q6600 at 3.0GHz performs adequately with a Radeon HD 6570 and Ubuntu 18.04, though it may struggle with 1080p60 videos without hardware support. Using a CPU with only 4MB cache (Q8400, Q8300, Q8200) is even less ideal. Overall, the Q9450 offers the best balance of speed and capability.
