my budget is roughly 1.5k, but 12900k, 12700k and 12600k seem really affordable. they have 16, 12, and 10 cores and they perform well—top three chips at the moment. the only downsides are the TDP and the pricey motherboard. with a Ryzen you can usually skip the stock cooler, but for K chips you definitely need that 360mm AIO unless you’re okay with constant overheating. on the positive side, Black Friday is coming up soon, so I’m hoping for some good microcenter discounts. That peak load of 250W means I’d probably need an H150i, which should be around 125 on sale—definitely a good deal for such a powerful cooler. I’m aiming for the motherboard around 300, though it might end up between 400-500. DDR5 will be pricey unless you can overclock the B660, then DDR4 works fine. I really wish the 12900k comes in at 450, since with a good case and RAM around 1000 would make sense. I’m looking forward to new releases, especially after FX and Tr launched. I’ll also be mining on this rig, so the TDP should stay under 50 while it’s idle.

The cost you pay determines how much you hand over or receive when something is delivered. It can differ widely depending on the situation. If products are quick, affordable, and in stock, they might actually offer value. The challenge here is that companies like Intel already provide chips at lower costs but need additional components such as a motherboard and cooler to deliver strong performance, which often leads to mixed results. We’ll find out what happens. Alder Lake represents a completely different design approach. Its outcome remains uncertain. AMD’s shift to SOC, modular architecture, and efficiency proved effective. This strategy proved valuable. Ryzen2 sometimes outperformed expectations in many segments, especially when speed matters. The 5600X is a low-power six-core chip with an affordable cooler, minimal wafer usage, and less material waste—resulting in higher margins and market appeal. Alder Lake could potentially excel here too. We’ll see how it performs. To dominate gaming, a console needs a performance leap of 2600 to 3700x, which dominates the majority of players. The office software sector is another area with limited impact. Financially, enterprise and server markets drive the biggest gains. I’m puzzled why a 16-core processor with inexpensive chips didn’t emerge—perhaps it was even less powerful than a 3700x but still efficient enough to justify its cost. Someone calculated this, I’m sure. Edited September 23, 2021 by Bombastinator

When it comes to board brands, opinions differ widely. The ones I rely on usually have long hair, beards, or Australian accents. Aldur Lake might just be the right choice. We’ll find out once more details are available. Edited September 23, 2021 by Bombastinator
