Looking for ways to improve your high-end gaming and 4K video editing PC? Here are some optimization tips!
Hello everyone,
It's been a while since I needed to refresh my PC. Having previously benefited from your support, I thought it would be worthwhile to reach out once more for some advice.
I'm looking to optimize the components I've chosen, especially focusing on the value they offer relative to their cost. Since I'm not familiar with every detail of each part, I've selected them based on what I know so far.
If you spot any opportunities for improvement, I'd be very interested in hearing your thoughts.
Approximate Purchase Date:
April - May 2025
Budget Range:
Around 3.000€
System Priorities from Most to Least Important:
The system should support future needs. I want to get back into gaming, but it must also handle video editing with 4K raw footage.
Are you purchasing a monitor?
Yes -> Dell U4025QW for Work and Gaming
Components to Upgrade:
Current System:
- Mainboard: Corsair VI Hero
- CPU: Ryzen 7 1700
- Graphics card: GTX 1080
- Cooling: Corsair AiO
- Power supply: SF-650F14EG
- RAM: 32GB G.Skill Trident Z DDR4-3200
I plan to upgrade the entire PC.
Do you need to install an operating system?
Yes -> WIN11
Preferred Parts:
I've compiled the following selections:
- Mainboard: MAG X870 TOMAHAWK WIFI
- CPU: Ryzen 9 9950X
- Graphics card: RTX 5080 (or any suitable option you recommend)
- Cooling: Arctic Liquid Freezer II 420mm
- Power supply: be quiet! Dark Power 13 1200W
- RAM: 64 GB DDR5-7200 Corsair Dominator Platinum
Overclocking: Possibly
Multiple GPUs: No
Monitor Resolution:
5120x2160@120Hz
Additional Notes:
I currently own a be Quiet DarkBase Pro 900 and prefer to keep it. A black or orange case would be ideal if possible.
Most importantly, why am I upgrading?
My system is aging and struggles with most modern games at 1920x1080@60Hz. Video editing is also becoming more demanding, and using the old setup greatly diminishes my motivation.
Feel free to ask any questions or seek further details—I'll do my best to assist.
Best regards

The ideal DDR5 platform lies around DDR5-6000MHz with minimal delays. For an AM5 setup, a dual-channel RAM kit featuring AMD’s E.X.P.O should be on your radar.
The 9800X3D stands out as a strong choice for both work and gaming; check local availability if you're interested.
Knowing your budget and currency helps, but understanding your location would be beneficial too—since part and brand access can differ by region.
You’ll also need to consider the system’s capacity for video editing with 4K raw files.
List of apps that may strain the system is not specified here.
Storage requirements are important to address.
Hi Lutfij,
thanks for the feedback.
Here is the information you asked about:
Would the following memory be a better option than the one you mentioned?
G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo RGB 64GB (2x32GB) DDR5-6000 CL30 (EXPO)
I am from Germany. Generally, I don’t prefer specific stores for buying products, but I mainly consider these places:
Mindfactory, CaseCing, Alternate, MediaMarkt/Saturn
I use Premiere Pro for video editing.
I still have sufficient memory in my current system, as I’ve expanded it over time (M2 SSD, SSDs, HDDs).
The most recent advice from the Puget Systems website regarding 4K editing in Premiere Pro suggests a minimum of 96GB of system RAM. However, 64GB should suffice in many cases.

What RAM is required?
The precise requirement varies based on your specific tasks, but there’s a standard reference depending on the resolutions you handle:
Footage Resolution
1080p
4K
6K
8K
12K
Recommended RAM amounts
64GB
96GB
128GB
192GB
256GB
These applications appreciate having multiple CPU cores; however, this comes at a cost. I recommend the AMD 9950X for editing (I own a 7950X). The Intel 14900K offers about a 10% speed boost in Premiere compared to my AMD processor but uses more power—230W versus 170W.
These programs also require a powerful GPU, and you’ve made a solid choice with the NVidia RTX 5080 (see below).
I utilize three 1TB M.2 NVMe drives for video editing:
1) First SSD – Windows + Adobe applications
2) Second SSD – Adobe scratch disk
3) Video work in progress files
Completed projects are stored on a hard disk.
