There are no settings available in the free edition—just a couple of toggles to turn real-time scanning on or off. It’s misleading.

It's completely free... so don't get too big for yourself. Turn it off when you launch Steam, it shouldn't be that difficult.

I installed the BD Internet Security 2014. Added steam to the firewall exemptions, but it should handle that automatically. My office PC has Kaspersky installed, which generates many unwanted desktop.ini files across several folders—check your folder settings if you want hidden files shown. I used Norton before; it was really annoying with its persistent warnings and also creates those .ini files.
