You should replace the motherboard, CPU, and RAM. Staying with AM3+ or DDR3 won’t work anymore. Newer i3 or R3 models can handle a 970 easily.

You're close to the top of that platform's performance, but you won't reach much higher without paying a premium. Check out a used box now—something around the Ryzen 3600 lineup. These units often sell for about $300 without GPUs.

It seems you don’t need to upgrade the GPU since it’s still sufficient for 1080p medium quality. Bulldozer is a poor design choice. You just didn’t want to invest in an i5.
