Hey there! I’m looking for something simple and easy to play on my htpc. My friends often want to watch something on TV, but when I try to do something "serious," they get a bit confused. I’m hoping for something a bit more relaxed and casual. Thanks for your help!

Casual isn't something I'm familiar with. For me, the main split-screen titles include Boderlands 2, Portal 2, and Left 4 Dead 2.

My most recent controller session was with Fez—a relaxed exploration puzzle platformer. The challenges become tougher toward the end, but it demands a significant time investment. I also suggest harder platformers such as Super Meat Boy. Switching turns helps assess everyone's skill and the game’s presentation is appealing with its music. A touch of dark humor wraps up each world. Some fighting games remain enjoyable. If everyone prefers casual play, occasional roughness is fine. Semi-arcade racing can be fun for car enthusiasts; we compete by taking turns to beat lap times. However, it may feel dull with many friends around. I’m not familiar with a top-tier PC racing game offering more than two players on split screen. And for tabletop fans, titles like Civ V or Heroes of Might & Magic (especially the 3 with HD mods) deliver surprisingly solid hot-seat multiplayer experiences.

Speedrunners and Spelunky offer some enjoyable experiences. Alternatively, you can narrow Steam games to casual titles and those that support controllers.

Well... My English isn't flawless, I understand. For me, "casual" means relaxed or laid back. So please fix me if I'm mistaken. Back to the subject: It doesn't have to be multiplayer or split-screen, but Portal 2 is a great concept. I enjoy playing Arma 3, though it didn't match my expectations. Particularly for someone who just wants 10 to 20 minutes of quick action, I'll look at the rest—thanks for all the suggestions.

Casual in gaming just means a player who enjoys the vibe, so most games fit that description except for super tough ones like Dark Souls or Super Meat Boy. I won’t suggest Arma 3 if you’re after a chill feel—it’s way too intense and feels more like a sim than a game.
