I just bought a laptop (Lenovo G50 for $400) and I'm looking for some solid games to play. The setup is decent: an A8 APU, 6GB RAM, and a 1TB HDD running Windows 8.1. It handles Minecraft smoothly at around 40 and Hearthstone at 60 or 70. I want recommendations for better light gaming options.

Most retro-style platformers work on a wide variety of systems. Shovelknight, VVVVVV and they bleed pixels are excellent titles. You might also try an NES or SNES emulator and enjoy some classic games.

These classic real-time strategy titles perform excellently even with average graphics options. Modern shooters have also improved significantly, with games like Deus Ex and Half-Life offering refined experiences. You might be able to enjoy World of Warcraft at lower settings if you prefer, just let me know!

Terraria, any source titles (TF2, Portal 1, Gmod, L4D2), Unturned works if you adjust certain settings.

Typically, Source titles perform exceptionally well (run smoothly) when played.

I'm actually using an older integrated graphics card. These games will run smoothly, especially in Dota 2, Portal 2, L4D2, Dirt 2 & 3, Civilization V, Fallout 3 & NV, Torchlight 1 & 2, Trine 1 & 2, Don't Starve, and FF7. You might notice a bit better performance compared to mine. Consider trying titles you think could struggle, just download a demo.
