Looking for laptop advice on Dell G15/16
My son is 17 and requires a new laptop. I want one that meets his gaming needs and lasts for five years until college. Battery life should be sufficient since he’ll mostly use it connected, though occasional use in class might help. For gaming, he mainly plays Fortnite, which likely needs moderate specs, but could need higher performance later. He’s just started playing Don’t Starve Together.
I’m considering the Dell G15 or G16 models, with 16GB RAM and a 512GB storage. These are available for around $900 to $1200 at the Dell Outlet store, plus about $100 for a four-year warranty.
What people say about these Dells fits my requirements? The graphics options include the RTX 3060 (6GB) or the RTX 3050/3050 Ti (4GB). I don’t have enough information to compare them well, but any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Welcome to the forums, newcomer! The laptops you mentioned are indeed suitable for beginners to mid-range gamers, even for productivity tasks. School assignments typically fall outside this range, so he’ll be well-covered there as well. I can’t predict what’s coming up, but currently these models should handle most modern games smoothly (especially with the RTX3060). As time goes on, you can simplify details while still enjoying gaming. Could you share your location and preferred purchasing site?
Thanks, Lutfij! And thank you for the details.
It seems the RTX 3060 is a solid choice—it didn’t seem like there was a big price gap between the G15s with the 3050 and those with the 3060.
I’m located in the Eastern US (near Philadelphia) and would be purchasing from Dell’s outlet store, as they offer good discounts on the scratch units while still providing full warranties.
