Looking for information about setting up several gaming PCs on a single Ethernet switch.
We already have a standard modem and router set up for our gaming PCs, but we’ll need more Ethernet ports for additional devices in another room. Right now each room has one Ethernet cord, and the router lacks extra ports. One idea is to purchase a switch and connect it to an Ethernet cable, allowing that area to share the connection without placing the switch next to the router or running cables through the house. The layout would be modem → router → Ethernet cord to each room → switch in Room 1 → PC connections. Regarding performance, adding more gaming PCs on the switch might cause noticeable lag during FPS games if many are connected simultaneously.
The delay from a switch is minimal and unlikely to be significant. Unless your clients are heavily using the 1Gbit connection, you probably won’t notice any major impact.
