so i own an alienware alpha mini desktop pc. it has an i5-6400 and lga 1151 board. i haven’t opened it before, but because the case is small, i’m curious if i can replace the motherboard and processor with similar-sized parts. am i worried about compatibility? i’ve used it for a while now, and i don’t need to spend much money on a new build, so i was just checking if a more affordable upgrade is possible.

i’m pretty confident in my knowledge of building setups, if that’s the case. if swapping is feasible, would anything else in this model need to be changed?

anyone know about this unit? your advice would be appreciated.

i noticed the board only supports a 4-core processor, while i’d like something more powerful. thanks ahead of time.

If you're swapping the motherboard and CPU (and RAM, PSU, and likely GPU),...the only thing you'd need to retain is that small Alienware case.
A case is among the more affordable components in a fresh PC.
You could sell the Alienware unchanged and construct an entirely new setup.

could you even receive any payment for this kind of unit? i mentioned it's quite outdated, so i thought it wouldn't command much value.

It might cost around $150 for someone who doesn't know what they're doing.
But, there aren't many options to improve it further.
