Hi, I constructed my PC about two years back. It was my initial build and I gained a lot from my errors. A key mistake was picking the motherboard. I used an MSI B250 PC Mate. For my parts I installed a 15-7600k, EVGA GTX 1070 SC, and 16GB of 2400MHz Corsair RAM. I’ve noticed some performance issues between my CPU and GPU. Recently I found a brand new ASUS Strix Z270F motherboard on Facebook Marketplace for $120 USD, and it’s nearby. I don’t have much budget to replace the CPU entirely. I’m aware the Z270F supports overclocking and offers many other benefits. I’m thinking if it’s worth getting this board and boosting my CPU instead of buying a new one?
No need to swap your motherboard unless it's completely damaged. Just hold off until the Ryzen 4000 arrives and you can upgrade to it. It might be useful to check what RAM it supports at that time, since the Ryzen 3000 already handles 3600mhz RAM and offers a noticeable boost.
Hmm, that's accurate. I'm on a tighter budget these days. Mostly I rely on my computer for streaming games like Modern Warfare, editing videos, and using Photoshop. I also have a 144Hz monitor. I'd like to add a bit more frames during streaming since it can be shaky for me sometimes. Usually I'm around 90 FPS, dropping down to the 40s and 50s. I really want a consistent 100 FPS. Modern Warfare puts a lot of strain on my CPU and leaves much of my GPU's power unused. I'm comfortable with Intel right now; I haven't really explored AMD yet, but I might consider it later.
Switching your motherboards won’t solve the issue, you should add more CPU cores using an R7 3700 or a TBD R7 4700 with eight cores.
