Hi, I have a B360M motherboard with Team T-FORCE VULCAN Z 16GB DDR4 3000. Can this board handle overclocking the RAM? I changed the XMP profile in BIOS but the RAM speed is still grayed out at 2666 or something. I’d really like to push it up to 3000. Do you think my board is capable of that? I’m not super technical, just started getting into computers a year ago. I bought this build and have been slowly improving it. My specs are: i7-9700K (upgraded from i5 9400F), MSI 3070 Ventus X3 OC, Gigabyte B360M D3H GSM Team T-FORCE Vulcan Z 16GB 3000, Samsung 1TB 860 EVO (upgraded), plus another 1TB HDD and a smaller SSD for system and Windows. I also upgraded Corsair RM750X from 500 deep cool. I’m thinking about upgrading the RAM and maybe the board itself. Should I consider other changes? I’m looking at MSI Z390-A Pro and Coarsair Vengeance. Are these recommended for this setup? I know you need a Z series board to overclock the CPU, but do I really need it for RAM? Can I reach 3000 without more upgrades? Thanks for your help!
There’s no necessity to upgrade the motherboard solely for faster RAM. That amount could be better invested in a different system altogether. A new Z-series board would let RAM operate at its full capacity, though I’m uncertain it’s worth the 100 yen. Upgrading RAM isn’t essential unless you’re planning a major overhaul. If you’re considering such a shift, hold off, sell your current components and purchase a Z490 with 11th-gen RAM and a 3600-pin kit. It wouldn’t be a significant investment in my opinion. Also, increasing the RAM from 2666 to 3000 won’t have a major impact. It would assist, but only slightly.
