Hey there, so a few weeks back I purchased a valve index and noticed some frame issues. I think it might be related to my CPU. My setup includes a Ryzen 5 2600, an RTX 3060 Ti, and 16GB of RAM. I need an AM4 socket motherboard. I found a couple of options—Ryzen 9 3900X and Ryzen 5 5600X. Are either of these suitable? Any other recommendations would be great! I’m not very familiar with CPUs these days, so any advice would mean a lot to me.

5600x offers excellent value for its cost, but if future AMD processors arrive, you might want to replace your whole system.

It seems like you're anticipating the upcoming AMD CPU release and feel a bit surprised that the 2600 remains strong.

A good approach would be to investigate the cause of the lag in VR. You might want to check other components besides the CPU, such as graphics card, memory, or software settings. If you share your specs and brand details, I can help narrow it down.

There are several factors to check: ensure DOCP is active, run at 2133 MHz on Zen for better performance compared to 1600 MHz on DDR3 chips. Verify the game uses NVMe storage or at least a SATA SSD—this is essential for VR. Confirm your GPU meets the required specifications and maintains a stable frame rate regardless of settings. Lowering settings can help stability, but it’s important to keep performance consistent. Make sure the game is well-developed; I learned this after a frustrating 45-minute session with PonyVRville. Check your CPU performance by observing if speed improvements occur—if not, it may point to an issue beyond your CPU. Using a 1600 MHz and 6600 MHz CPU for VR has worked fine for me without major problems, especially with games from itch.io.

I should definitely consider transferring games to my SSD! That sounds like a solid plan. It might just be related to loading problems. I currently have all my games stored on a 1TB HDD. Is the DOCP setting in the BIOS menu, under memory or CPU?

DCP is stored in the BIOS. It may also be referred to as XMP, A-XMP, or AMP based on the device. This setting controls memory configuration.

1 works. Let's try 2 to confirm the benefits.
