I’ll use my PC for school, work, and enjoy playing FPS games when time allows. I found out Ryzen is ideal for multitasking and strong performance. I often listen to music and chat on Discord while gaming occasionally. Should the Ryzen 9 5900X be a good choice? Also, what RAM and motherboard would pair well with it? My budget is looking for good value and good appearance. I managed to buy a 3070 at a reasonable price given the current market. Thanks for all the suggestions and support!
For school projects, even a 5600X performs well enough. Gaming remains limited to around 6-8 cores currently. When building a system, I recommend an ASUS B550F or B550-Plus TUF motherboard. For RAM, opt for options with solid performance and high-speed chipsets—modern DDR3L or DDR4 modules with 3200-3600 MHz are ideal.
B550 Aorus Pro V2 offers solid performance at a competitive price. For Zen3 builds, DDR4 3600 CL16 seems ideal. I’d stick to 3600MTs unless you need higher speeds; XMP profiles might not apply. Lower CL ratings work better if you want more RAM. If you must fine-tune memory manually, an XMP profile is a smart choice. Faster RAM boosts performance mainly for show, which isn’t worth the cost. A 5900x will be extremely fast, but it could be excessive depending on your workload. At around $100 more than a 5800x, it’s unlikely to justify the price unless you’re saving time or money. The 5900x usually sells for more than a 5800x, making it slightly under the $100 mark. If it helps you avoid upgrading later, it’s actually cheaper than the 5800x. If budget is tight and you prefer Intel, the i9 10850k is a better value. For gaming, 6 cores are usually sufficient for most titles, though 5900x still delivers great performance. If you’re near a microcenter, the $319 price tag is reasonable. To enjoy modern AAA games alongside other tasks, the 5900x remains one of the best deals for your budget.
