Looking for guidance on selecting a drawing tablet?
Hi everyone, I'm trying to choose between several options and have a few questions.
I'm considering the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite 2022, Wacom One with 13" screen display, Huion Kamvas 16", an iPad Air (model uncertain), and I can spend up to $780 on the last one.
My main concern is the responsiveness of the stylus—some reviews mention slight lag during drawing. Portability isn't my top priority, but drawing experience matters most for me.
My PC specs are: Ryzen 3 3200G (4 cores), RX 6600, 16 GB RAM, 1 TB NVMe storage.
Thanks!
From the options provided, I would choose the Wacom since I'm familiar with them. In general, each touch panel (like a tablet) will exhibit some level of input delay before commands are processed.
The iPad Air with Apple Pencil operates at 60Hz, so you might want to compare it with faster models like the iPad Pro for a better sense of lag or jerkiness. All these options share the same refresh rate, which is up to 17ms maximum delay even without processing work. The iPad Pro and Surface Pro/Surface Book offer 120Hz, including Wacom support, but only if you already own them.
Tablet vs Pen Display
🤔
Let's skip the details.
For a PC or Laptop "Pen Display":
- XPPen Artist Pro 16 Drawing Display – around $350
A durable option with solid features, but not significantly better than the Wacom Cintiq 16 or Kamvas Pro 16, which are nearly twice as expensive.
Physical Tablets
You should aim for an 11-inch screen or larger, with strong color quality, DPI, and aspect ratio. None of the S6 series really excel in these areas.
- iPad Pro and Galaxy Tab S7+ are excellent but may exceed your budget.
- For a smaller size (around 10 inches), the iPad Air works well.
