Looking for guidance on picking a new router?
Hey everyone, I'm switching from my current Xfinity router because it doesn't support Wi-Fi 6. Since my home has many devices connected, I need a reliable router that can handle that load. Any solid recommendations would be great!
Your home is quite spacious, and you're aiming for a budget of around that amount.
We share similar setups. Our home isn’t huge, but we use different devices—Windows PC, iMac, and the latest Xbox. Each machine is in a separate area. It functions well now, and if we ever needed to grow, it wouldn’t be a big problem. Good luck. https://www.netgear.com/home/wifi/mesh/mk62-3/ A quick remark: the Negear mesh is just a router, not a full router/modem combo. That means if either fails, I only need to replace that part. I can opt for a new modem or a new router without buying both. Good luck. Edited December 31, 2021 by kb5zue Additional Information
What speed tier are you subscribed to with Xfinity? You can find out about swapping in your old gear for their latest xFi router. I own one and it’s not too shabby, supporting WiFi 6. I’m still using my personal mesh router, but that’s mainly because my home is three stories high and I wanted more coverage. The new xFi router does offer mesh via extra pods you can buy separately, though it lacks a dedicated backbone channel. Still, it’s worth checking if it could work for you, since you might not need any extra purchases.
The Xfinity box functions as both a modem and a router. You should switch the modem to bridge mode or acquire one separately if you intend to link a new router. Alternatively, set the new router to access point mode while turning off WiFi on the Xfinity box.
Thanks! I'll definitely check it out since I've noticed it often.
Thank you, I'll look into upgrading first. If that's not possible, I'll opt for a recommended alternative. I'm opting for unlimited, top-speed plans.
