Looking for guidance on HDR gaming? Let me know your questions and I’ll help clarify.
Hello, I’ve been working on some research lately but still need clarification on HDR settings. My monitor has a 2560x1440 resolution at 240Hz and supports HDR 600. However, it doesn’t support DSC, so it can’t run at that resolution and refresh rate with more than 8-bit color. I’m puzzled because enabling Windows HDR makes the display look brighter, even though it’s still at full resolution and speed. When I switch to NVIDIA Control Panel and adjust the color settings, I’m stuck at 8-bit color. If Windows can enable HDR with just 8-bit, how does it make the screen appear more vivid without using extra data? It seems like I have three possible approaches: 1) Use Windows HDR while keeping the monitor at full settings, 2) lower the refresh rate to 144Hz and enable 12-bit color via the panel, or 3) stick with max settings but change the color format to YCbCr422 for 12-bit depth. Which option do you think would work best? (Note: I’m mainly focused on gaming and light content, not creating new material.) Any advice would be appreciated!
