You have a 2080Ti that runs well but is limited by your i7-9700K. You're looking to switch to AMD and want a GPU upgrade that matches or beats it. Any suggestions would be great! Thanks ahead.

For AMD options, the 7600x or 7700x are great choices. I really enjoy my 7700x. I noticed a significant boost in FPS and a slight improvement in lows for my RTX 4080 when switching from an overclocked [email protected] to the 7700x. Of course, the difference isn't huge since the 2080ti is less powerful, but you might see better stability and less stutter.

The 7700x represents a significant leap forward from the 9700k. Switching to an AM5 platform lets you upgrade to something like a 9800X3D within a few years, extending the life of the system compared to constantly replacing the motherboard and RAM. That was my original strategy. It's hard to put a number on how much better the 7700x is versus my previous 9900k—my old system was so rough it felt unplayable, just like in Hell Let Loose. The performance is truly amazing, with smooth gameplay and minimal lag.

I don't know if any AM5 boards support DDR5, but the 7700x is compatible with DDR5.

Consider why you feel limited by the 9700k before investing in a new platform and RAM. With an 2080ti it fits your needs perfectly. The question is whether you truly need 400-700 dollars for a 15% improvement at 1080p, or if the gains drop significantly at higher resolutions. Test suites barely notice these differences; each time you raise graphics settings, the improvement percentage shrinks. You might be paying a premium for only a 10% frame rate boost, especially since the chipset’s standard is 4k. Check local microcenters for deals and see what’s available in the next month.
