Looking for guidance on choosing a budget CPU?
He wants to buy his first PC and is considering the 4-core series. He has a budget of $800 SGD and is thinking about the APU option or the 3300X with an RX5500 GPU. He’s unsure whether to go for a high-end build like the 3400G or stick with a more affordable setup. Suggested options include the Ryzen R5 3300X or R5 3400G.
The 3300X and 5500XT (or RX 580 or GTX 1650 Super) setup is clearly the best choice. C&C: Remastered also works on the Vega 11 in the 3400G. I just rechecked your comment about the SSD—you’ll need one, and since you can find 120/240GB drives for as low as 1TB hard disks, it fits within a reasonable budget. Edited July 14, 2020 by Mateyyy
His budget stands at $800 SGD, not in USD. The RX 580 is no longer available in stores here, unlike the GTX 1650 which is priced at $258 (the best deal from the Leadtek brand), and the RX 5500XT is at $245 for Sapphire glass.
He only needs a modest setup if he's focused on C&C remastered. A R5 3400g or even an R3 3200g would suffice. While the RX 570 is now quite outdated, it remains a reasonably affordable and capable GPU for 1080p gaming... I’d suggest something above the 1050Ti.
You don't require the same approach; focus on a different mindset and routines. Even with a budget SSD for Windows, an HDD remains essential for gaming. Noticing that most major titles now exceed 100GB, while most games sit between 30-70GB, the small SSD would be largely ineffective as a sole storage option.
