Hi everyone,
I'm brand new to overclocking, so I really need some guidance here.
To be honest, I have a GTX 970 G1 gaming card, an i5 4690k processor, an XFX 550 TS (80+ bronze) power supply, a Gigabyte GA-Z97x-Gaming 3 motherboard, and just recently installed a Cryorig H5 CPU cooler.
I'm curious about how much I can overclock my GPU and CPU given the power available. Should I focus on overclocking the GPU to get the best performance in games (since this setup is all about gaming)?

You're definitely in a strong position to achieve a solid overclock, lucky guess!

Your i5 should handle gaming well without any overclocking, and you wouldn't need to make much changes. If you wanted a higher speed, you could easily push it to around 4-4.2ghz with just a few adjustments, though this would need some fine-tuning and voltage tweaks. The GPU overclocking might offer better performance in games, which is your main priority.

don't set the gpu to 1 or 2 fps on a low-end card, it doesn't work well. the cpu has many "how to overclock your cpu" guides, like maxing out at 4.5ghz, but temperatures will rise constantly.

Absolutely, that's the main concern for me. I'm checking how much performance I'd get from using the GPU. If it drops below 5 frames per second, I think it wouldn't be worth it. Thanks for the guidance.
