Warzone experiences significant variations due to CPU demands in various areas based on player numbers. Arma 3 remains a demanding title with consistent high CPU usage. I typically play at around 40-50 FPS, which changes depending on the situation. When FPS problems arise, the 5800X3D performs much better than the 5950X. Even without FPS issues, my 3900X still works well. I understand what I'm looking for in a game. I’m curious—does the 5800X3D offer more speed compared to the 5950X for my needs? Not every task gains from additional cores or threads. Will my workload improve more with the large cache of the 5800X3D than with the 16-core 5950X? That’s something I haven’t explored much yet.

I've only come across this Phoronix review, but I'm not sure what these benchmarks mean. It seems many reviews focus on machine learning where the AMD 5800X3D outperforms others significantly, yet details about the rest are unclear. https://www.phoronix.com/review/amd-5800x3d-linux/8 You mentioned a benchmark comparing the 5800X3D to the 5950X due to VCache improvements—still no clear explanation. GPAW is a Python DFT tool using PAW and ASE, and I’d love to know its performance in Blender as well. Simulations generally show better results with caching.

Physics simulations run significantly quicker on the 5800x3d due to the vcache feature. Check the F1 2022 results or Asseta Corsa Competizione benchmarks in 5800x3d reviews to compare performance. This speed boost comes from their single-threaded design, which differs from how Blender smoke simulations operate.

I think I'll create some scenarios and have folks with those CPUs test them out... won't be a perfect measure, but it'll help.

You've noticed a change in how Blender works. It's possible the 3D VCache improved performance.

I haven’t performed any specific benchmarks after acquiring the 5800X3D. However, when working with complex meshes during sculpting, the 3900X struggles significantly compared to the 5800X3D, making performance a real concern. It’s clear that CPU rendering will lag behind even older Ryzen models with multiple cores, yet most users opt for GPU rendering. (I used DynTopo for sculpting thousands of vertices, which is demanding.) To illustrate, when I attempted to highlight large sections of my character model in Edit mode with the 3900X, it froze for a few seconds before I could proceed. With the 5800X3D, the operation completed in under a second and felt almost instantaneous. Even placing fine details like hair or a comb ran much smoother. As I mentioned, I can’t provide exact figures since I didn’t run precise tests, but the performance gap is obvious for these tasks. I haven’t explored displacement maps or smoke simulations yet, so those results might vary. Overall, I believe most physics simulations should match the 3900X in speed, though this is based on my experience with CPU performance from Time Spy, where the 5800X3D scored roughly 5% to 10% better. The actual difference depends heavily on simulation complexity. I suspect a modest improvement, but it’s likely limited by memory bandwidth rather than raw CPU power, and the added L3 cache might offer some help—though I haven’t tested this in Blender yet.

Zen 2 runs much slower than Zen 3, especially noticeable in games from newer Zen 3 models. X3D works well for gaming, but for performance, the 5950X would be a better choice.
