Hey everyone! Looking for some PC FPS suggestions for a newcomer who just wants to try singleplayer. The wife loves classic Doom and wants something easy to pick up. Any recommendations?

I believe a good beginner shooter should start with classic Call of Duty campaigns like MW1, MW2, WaW, and BO1. Those feel more approachable for new players. The main drawback with MW1 is the sniping mission and the time-limited town push after it—otherwise it could be enjoyable. I’d suggest Halo, but only Classic Halo CE is available on PC at the moment.

Skyrim is a title where you develop your skills gradually, focusing on movement, interaction, and responses. Shooters tend to emphasize quick reflexes and precision that newcomers haven’t mastered yet. If you enjoy the challenges, give Portal a try—it’s a puzzle-heavy experience with shifting perspectives. It wouldn’t be a good fit before Skyrim, but it could work afterward.

For a beginner, I suggest starting with the 2016 Doom on the simplest difficulty level. Consider enabling God Mode and other cheats if necessary.

Even straightforward linear control in Call of Duty would be simple to pick up... Look for any games that offer special content, as the SP COD versions often work well for quick or occasional sessions.

Half-Life series – top games I've enjoyed. Bioshock series – Bioshock 1 is a standout. F.E.A.R and F.E.A.R 2 – both excellent horror FPS titles in my view. Just played Titanfall 2 recently, it's quite solid! Would suggest it.

Thanks for the ideas, everyone! Now it's time to check if the classic games work on modern platforms. Looks promising! (^_^)

It seems you're looking for a simpler setting. Let's adjust the challenge level.
