Hello, thank you for reaching out. I'm looking to upgrade my PC and seeking some advice. I currently have a GTX 1050ti, an i5-2500 processor, a 1TB hard drive, 16GB of 1600MHz RAM, and the standard Optiplex 990 06D7TR motherboard. My plans include installing an ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 board, a RX 590 graphics card, an i5-3570k CPU, a DIYPC Zondda-B black case, and a Cooler Master Extreme Power 500W power supply. I'm wondering if these changes would be beneficial for VR and triple-A games in 2020, or if it's better to wait and upgrade later with a more powerful system. Since I've already purchased the graphics card, case, and PSU, I feel it's time to hear from others. Thank you for your help!
Future forecasts have become increasingly unclear due to the ongoing pandemic, making timelines uncertain. Before that, most people thought a 4/4 pace was insufficient and 4/8 wasn’t much better. Possibly around 6/6 is where expectations are now. An 8/8 rating feels questionable. Longer-term expectations seem to focus on 6/12 and 8/16. The 590 refers to an overclocked 580, essentially a rebranded version of the 480.
It won’t be a good value for the price. The CPU is nearly ten years old now. I’d suggest choosing something newer, particularly if you’re into VR. You likely won’t need to spend significantly more than what you’re already planning for this upgrade. What’s your budget?
It was listed on eBay, so I can't send it back. Checking alternatives for the LGA 1155 socket, I wasn't sure if upgrading to an i7-3770k would be worth it given the slight performance drop or if it was a waste of money running double threads.
