I currently possess a 2x8GB Crucial Ballistix Sport set in grey and have been searching for a 2x8GB kit to reach a 32GB total. The challenge has been locating RAM with the same 3200 MHz speed, as it seems Crucial may have discontinued the "Sport" series entirely. I'm seeking identical memory to maintain consistency in my build and encountering difficulty finding deals online under $200 on Newegg. The kit was purchased from Amazon in 2019, but it's no longer available there. Should I explore other options or consider switching brands for a different memory type? Part number: BLS2K8G4D32AESBK Crucial Ballistix Sport LT 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 (Grey) Thanks ahead!

It’s likely more advantageous to sell the item and purchase two additional 16GB sticks. Dual rank usually offers slightly better performance than single rank.

I agree, finding a 16GB dual-rank kit without overspending on B die is tough. Most kits today are single-rank, even for premium options like Trident Z Royal, unless you opt for timings that match an 8Gb chip. Those are usually pricey and hard to find. You might be lucky, but don’t count on it. eBay could work, but it’s probably better to buy a fresh kit or combine memory instead.

It seemed like a straightforward checkbox with a small fee, but I realized there’s more involved than I initially thought.

They're few kits that clearly state their rank in the spec sheet, though most just say single rank. I've noticed two identical models differing only in manufacture date—one dual rank, the other single. For reliable dual rank at a lower cost, consider purchasing four 8GB modules and using two single-rank DIMMs per channel. If you need certainty, go with a 4x8GB configuration and pair two single-rank modules. Otherwise, opt for a B die (3200MHz CL14 is typically the most affordable) or 32GB modules, as current DDR4 tech can't support an unbuffered 32GB module without dual ranks.
