A B450 board would likely cost around $40 today? That’s far less than what a B660 Gaming X or another solid LGA 1700 chipset would cost, even if used. You’d still pay about $100 more for the 13600K.

I think the $330 versus $450 gap isn't insignificant—it adds about 33% more cost for a 10% boost in performance at 1080P. Both options seem stuck in their current form, so upgradeability doesn’t make a strong case either way. The 13600K does run a bit faster, but it’s only worthwhile if you really need those cores.
When viewed this way, yes. But there are other options available. I don't see it that way. The Intel CPU costs less. If you purchased the $40 B550 motherboard (which might offer more value when bundled with an AMD CPU), your total investment would be near $60.
