Looking for assistance with your motherboard? Let me know what you need help with!
Hello, I've been organizing my plans for this month to sell my existing parts and upgrade to better components. My current setup includes a GTX 1060 with 6GB OC KFA2 and an i5 7400. The motherboard is the MSI H110m Pro D. I'm considering getting an RTX 2060, an i7 6700K, or an i5 9600K. Will any of these fit on my board? If not, should I look into a newer motherboard? Please let me know what you recommend. Thank you!
Only the latest 6th and 7th generation CPUs (after BIOS update) fit on these boards. The 8th and 9th generation models won’t work. I wouldn’t suggest a 6700K on a budget board either—it’s not built for that use case. I’d probably opt for a locked i7 6th gen or better, or a new setup if you really need more power. Something like a 3600 + B450 would be ideal. The 2060 model is mostly outdated compared to the 2060 Super, which offers similar price and much better performance. A 2060 Super or 5700 would be a good starting point now, but only if you require extra speed.
budget controls every aspect, yet your board struggles with 8th or 9th generation
You might obtain an 8th or 9th generation processor. A possible setup could look like this: PCPartPicker lists a CPU such as Intel Core i7-9700 3 GHz with 8 cores ($335.99 at Best Buy) and a motherboard like Gigabyte Z390 AORUS ELITE ATX ($171.99 at Amazon). Combined cost is around $507.98. Prices cover shipping, taxes, and any available discounts. On the AMD side, PCPartPicker shows an AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 3.6 GHz 8-core model for $309.99 at Walmart, paired with a Gigabyte X570 motherboard ($169.99 at Amazon), totaling about $479.98. Overall, it depends on your needs, budget, and current hardware. For best results, aim for over 2666Mhz memory and dual-channel configuration.
