Hey, I just got a new Asus TUF Z590 plus Wi-Fi and a new PSU Chieftec PPS-850FC along with some other components. The site said everything would work together, but now I'm checking if it's actually possible. I noticed the PSU doesn't come with cables or plugs for the mainboard sockets. The board has a 24-pin ATX_PWR slot, an 8-pin ATX_12V_1, and a 4-pin ATX_12V_2. The PSU only has a 20+4 pin connector (probably for ATX_PWR), plus a 10-pin plug that doesn't fit anywhere on the board, and two 4+4 pins labeled CPU. I'm unsure if they'll fit properly or if connecting them incorrectly could damage the board. With the cables included, I think I can use the 4+4 connector to link the PSU to the ATX_12V_2 slot, leaving the 4-pin plug unused. I could connect the 8-pin to the ATX_12V_1 using just the 4 pins, since only four of the four 4+4 pins will fit. The remaining two 4+4 plugs look tricky because of their shape. Should I try this setup or look for a different PSU with a 4+8 connector? If I decide to replace it, do you have any recommendations? Thanks in advance!

Attempting to connect the PSU end of the cable to the motherboard. The cable's end featuring the motherboard connection uses a 24-pin connector. At the power supply side, there are two connectors: a 10-pin and an 18-pin connector. When using modular cables, verify which side connects to the system and which to the power supply. The connector is designed with a keying mechanism to prevent incorrect insertion. If the connector shape doesn't match, it may be misaligned. The 4+4 connector combines to create an 8-pin connector.

Thank you for your quick response! The 24-pin connector seems to work perfectly—it fits only in one orientation. Your concern about the PSU is understandable; it appears the available connectors don’t match the socket type. You mentioned the manual suggests using an 8-pin power plug, but only a 4-pin version fits the right side of the ATX_12V_2 socket. It looks like you might face a challenge there, though I’m not entirely confident about the outcome.

Test the alternative CPU power cable. Ensure the connector is oriented correctly and the latch clip faces upward. If issues persist, please share images of the connected 4+4 cable.

I captured an image of the 4+4 pin plug and noticed they don't fit into the 8-pin socket. Both CPU cables appear identical. I also discovered a relevant discussion ( that suggests it might be possible to use a 4-pin connector in the 8-pin socket, though performance could be affected under load. Based on this, I believe switching the power supply might be the best option.

The keying on that connector matches the motherboard socket. It should fit properly. Have you actually tried putting it in? The plugs with rounded edges will fit into the square slots. The layout of square and rounded holes is designed to avoid misalignment. Square connectors (1 & 6) match the square holes, while rounded ones (4 & 7) fit into the square slots. Swapping the PSU won't fix it—they all work similarly. See this photo of a Corsair CPU power cable for reference.
