Avoid using liquid metal due to the high risk in a constantly tilting laptop. Opt for Kryonaut instead. It’s only 1-3°C warmer than the LM, yet safe and won’t damage the device.

Thanks for your message. I've already placed an order for more Kryonaut and .5 mm % Thermal Grizzly Minus pads, and they should arrive today. I checked online for the correct size, but didn't find any details. If a .05mm pad won't fit, can I stack them together? I'm worried about air pockets getting in and ruining the fit. I don’t want to reorder unless I’m sure it works. Regarding thermal pads, they’re better than regular putty—they provide more consistent heat management. You might need additional thermal putty if you're using liquid metal on the GPU. Let me know what you find!

Is the material orange? It appears to be copper. If not, it might be aluminum or nickel, though copper is more likely. Both copper and aluminum are susceptible to liquid metal corrosion.

I changed everything to .5 pads and double-checked everything. Still getting such high temperatures. CPU temps are spiking—Core #0 reached 98°C, Core #1 93°C, Core #2 95°C, Core #3 92°C. I applied the correct thermal paste and sized the pads properly. Could it be the laptop’s layout is causing heat buildup? The GPU and CPU are close together in the center, with the GPU chips right next to each other. That setup seems to be contributing to the issue.

After adjusting for a while, I solved the problem. The i7-7700HQ (Kaby Lake) was automatically overclocking because of the poor stock ASUS community center app. By setting my power limit to 99% and slightly undervolting with Intel XTU, I reached an average temperature of 85°C across all cores. I can play Doom Eternal at Ultra Nightmare with 120+ FPS while staying under 90°C. It turns out the thermal paste wasn’t necessary at all. Asus’s software for managing CPU overclocking is really lacking—only “standard” and “extreme” settings exist, and there’s no real way to fully turn off overclocking except through undervolting and pushing the max limit. Thanks to everyone who helped; this should assist others with similar issues!
