You're organizing a build for Star Citizen and production tasks like color grading. You're considering CPUs from Haswell-E, Haswell-EP, or Broadwell E/EP lines. Your goal is to find a suitable CPU with 6 to 10 cores, possibly up to 12 if budget allows. You want to know the recommended frequency for smooth performance at 1080p and 4K, especially since Xeons have locked speeds. If the frequency isn't enough for Star Citizen or risks bottlenecking in the future, you might prefer non-Xeon options. Please confirm your needs on CPU intensity before I help further. Thanks!

Checking the e5-2640 v3, it seems solid. You might consider adding another one if it meets your needs for Star Citizen.

Star Citizen likely won't rely on more than 6-8 cores. Consider stronger or faster options like the i7-5820K (or 5830K for multiple cards) or the Broadwell-E with its 8 or 10 cores. Xeons suit heavy multithreaded tasks or demanding workloads. What software are you running?

They're targeting eight cores, and an i7 performs better than an i5. It's unlikely SC will ever rely on more than eight cores anymore. Right now, you still have to overclock.

It seems you're referring to a specific wait time or milestone, like the 6930k or 6960x. Could you clarify what you mean? I'm here to help!

Stay tuned until the 2.0 full launch. The present test version runs smoothly unless you're using CTD.

This isn't the creamy experience I was expecting.
